The works for the construction of the Plaza del Mar in La Manga will begin before the end of the year, with an execution period of between 6 and 8 months.
The surroundings of the Galúa hotel will then have an open space with a garden area and two viewpoints.
The councilman of the Cartagena Consistory, David Martinez, and the general director of Costas of the Autonomous Community of Murcia, José Ramón Díez de Revenga, have come this Thursday, August 9, next to the Galúa hotel to present the project of the work to entrepreneurs and neighbors in the area.
Other mayors of the municipal corporation, such as Álvaro Valdés and Carolina Palazón, also attended the event.
On June 8, the Local Government Board gave the green light to the collaboration agreement between the City of Cartagena and the Ministry of Development of the Autonomous Community for the execution of the work of Plaza al Mar and its connection with Camino Proa streets and Camino Rompiente, within the framework of EDUCA 'La Manga Abierta 365'.
The work consists of a path with access to the sea in the vicinity of the hotel Galúa of approximately 6,750 square meters and has a deadline of between 6 and 8 months.
The works will involve an investment of 1.2 million euros that will be co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund, which contributes 80% of the total.
"People in La Manga asked for more areas to walk through, once the infrastructure is completed, this area will have an open environment in which both pedestrians and cyclists will enjoy spaces facing the sea that are currently occupied by cars, in addition to unparalleled views, "said the mayor.
The square, which will be equipped with pergolas, lampposts and benches, will be connected to the sea with approximately 850 meters of wooden walkways that will give direct access to the sand and that will offer neighbors and visitors the opportunity to contemplate this unique environment through two viewpoints.
Finally, the councilor stressed that, by virtue of the approved agreement and the modification of the project that the City Council contributed, once the projected works are completed they will be received by the Consistory, being responsible for its maintenance and conservation.
