The Consistory, through the Department of Heritage directed by the mayor David Martínez Noguera, and the Federation of Neighborhood Associations of Cartagena and Comarca have reached an agreement by which they will begin to take the first steps necessary to develop a plan of actions and putting in value of the mills of the region.
These constructions conform one of the greatest patrimonial treasures of the municipality, that at the moment counts on a total of 180 units of public and private property.
During the meeting held this week between the Councilor for Culture, Education and Youth, David Martínez and the member of the Historical Heritage of the Federation of Neighborhood Associations of Cartagena and Region, Luis de Miquel, the issue of mills was dealt with in a monographic way of wind, that make up an outstanding patrimonial set of the municipal term of Cartagena.
This agreement involves collaboration in a series of works that comprise three lines of action:
In the first place, "the continuity in the cataloging and individualized valuation works of the ample set of existing mills in the municipal area is contemplated, with a view to the elaboration by the City Council of the Risk Charter, in order to evaluate exactly the State of each one, the urgent works to carry out and their execution cost.
This work will complement the Master Plan of the Wind Mills of the Region of Murcia of upcoming hiring by the General Directorate of Cultural Assets, "said the councilor.
Secondly, during the meeting the establishment of a prioritization list of restoration interventions was considered, considering both their cost and the availability of investing in them, whether public or private property but with cession of use.
One of the most important issues is the commitment in the subsequent maintenance of these restored goods by neighborhood associations and social groups in the environment of each of them.
Finally, it was agreed that the neighborhood groups of the different localities where these mills are located will participate in the project, contributing with their volunteering in the subsequent maintenance of the restored buildings, thus linking the citizenship to the conservation of the heritage, the only possible way to avoid its new deterioration.
TRAINING COURSES ON THE MAINTENANCE OF THE MILLS
On the other hand, during the meeting the possibility of carrying out specific training courses on the maintenance and putting into operation of these mills was discussed.
"With them it would be to train a specialized staff in mills, new millers who do not lose this traditional trade and who are in charge in the future to ensure the good use and tourist and cultural use of the restored monuments," said Martinez.
In short, the meeting has shown a good harmony between the cultural policy being developed by the City of Cartagena and the demand of neighborhood associations, facilitating a collaborative future project.
