Lovers of dogs can now make use of the first canine beach in the municipality of Cartagena, La Calera.
With a length of 160 meters, it is located between Isla Plana and Azohía and has a car park near the beach.
The area has been signposted by signs indicating its location from the RM-E22 road (at the height of the Camping Los Madriles) and, in addition, informative signs have been placed with the rules of use of the same, as well as litter bins with bag dispensers. .
As pointed out by the Councilor of the Area of Quality of Life, Obdulia Gómez, 'the City of Cartagena believes necessary the creation of this type of beaches, which respond to the demand that exists in the municipality and where to establish a framework of coexistence and compatibility between the different users of them '.
It is necessary to remember that in the year 2017, the consistory initiated the procedures to install 4 canine beaches, discarding those that had negative reports of other organisms.
In this sense, from the City Council are still looking for other locations and associations and dog lovers are invited to suggest locations, taking into account the requirements to be met by the beaches of the Autonomous Community of Murcia to be declared of use for pets.
Some of these requirements to enable canine beaches are:
- For reasons of Public Health, the prohibition of the access of pets to the qualified and controlled beaches for the bath collected annually in the National Information System of Bathing Waters (NAYADE).
- The beaches commonly used for bathing or that habitually for use and custom, have an occupancy by citizens as places with leisure activities (areas of bathing, sunbathing, playing with the sand ...) may not be enabled as recreational areas for animals.
- There will be beaches adjacent to boardwalks or places with a large influx of public.
- They should be located on the municipal coast physically separated from the usual bathing areas, preferably in areas of difficult access and with rapid water renewal.
In the event that the distance is used as a natural barrier, there must be at least 200 meters of separation between the two beaches.
- Not found in areas of Natural Parks, Sites of Community Importance (SCI) or Special Environmental Protection Area (ZEPA).
