MC Cartagena has requested the Office of Transparency of the City, through a letter sent by the spokesman of the municipal group, José López, access, view and copy to the file of the Chair of Municipal Infrastructures of the City Council with the UPCT 2017/2018, agreed by Governing Board of November 24, 2017.
José López pointed out that "due to the lack of information and news regarding the Department of Infrastructures, we have been interested in its current status and we have discovered that the works have not started".
The MC spokesman added that "we fear that Torralba does not consider the exchange of knowledge and synergies with the important UPCT and has allocated the budget to other issues."
The Chair of Infrastructure has its origin in the initiative of the mayor of José López, subscribing, on December 21, 2015, a chair of work between the City Council and UPCT to coordinate lines of research that will improve and optimize municipal services essential for citizenship.
An intense collaboration with the UPCT
Supporting the UPCT in the search for a line of work aimed at improving the present and future of the municipality based on close collaboration with the University of Cartagena was one of the first initiatives launched by the mayor of José López.
In this way, thanks to the change of direction in municipal policy marked by MC, it ended a long stage in the City Council always lived with its back to the UPCT, as recognized by the teaching institution itself.
In order to promote the activity of the UPCT and, with it, generate progress in the municipality thanks to the knowledge provided by the university, besides the Chair of Infrastructures, MC has promoted, from the Government of Cartagena, other initiatives and actions of collaboration with the Cartagena University.
Exemption from the IBI
Also during the mayor's office in Cartagena, and being mayor of the Treasury, Isabel García, the exemption was granted to the UPCT for the payment of the Tax on Real Property (IBI), referring to the 2012, 2013 and 2014 fiscal years, to favor the undoubted work of Utility and public service developed by the UPCT.
Since the entry of MC in the Government of 2015 that exemption was granted, culminating the process with the previous years belonging to the previous Local Executive of the Popular Party (from 2012 to 2014).
Assignment of Antigones
Likewise with José López in the mayor's office, on June 1, 2017, the Governing Board approved the assignment of the Antigones Barracks to the UPCT because, despite having been rehabilitated and conditioned by the university as the headquarters of the School of Telecommunications, He had not yet been assigned by the Consistory.
Chair of the Environment
Another of the measures promoted by MC was ratified by the Local Government Board on December 29, 2017, agreeing the creation of the Chair of Quality of Life and Environment, at the proposal of the mayor of the Cartagena training, Francisco Calderón.
This initiative endorsed the close collaboration between the MC government areas and the UPCT, making it possible to advance in lines of work of great interest such as climate change and the recovery of contaminated soils in relation to El Hondón lands ".
Tomás Ferro Foundation
With the arrival of José López and MC to the municipal government, it was also possible to advance in initiatives for the analysis of the state of Campo de Cartagena and possible solutions for their full recovery, among them was the reactivation of the Tomás Ferro Foundation, institution revitalized after years of inaction of the Government of the PP.
In this sense, under the presidency of José López, with the aim of giving visibility and promoting the activity of the Foundation, the Tomás Ferro International Prize was established, which combines research and development.
In the same way, José López sponsored the Tomás Ferro wine of 2016, whose work was publicly acknowledged by the rector of the UPCT.
UPCT Racing Team
Recently, MC has ensured that one of the projects linked to research and the future of the young students of the UPCT will have the municipal contribution it deserves.
In this way, one of the amendments to the municipal budget of 2018 that has been included since MC refers to the subsidy of the City with 6,000 euros to the UPCT Racing Team project, a team that combines knowledge, technology and sports competition.
