Cs Cartagena calls for an environmental awareness project on the oceanic posidonia and protocols for its treatment (21/07/2018)

- The objective is to change the image that a good part of the citizens and tourists have when they see the accumulation of plants such as Posidonia on the beaches, mistaken for an algae

The Municipal Group of Citizens in Cartagena is going to propose to the local government that it design and launch an environmental awareness project on the oceanic posidonia, as has already been done by a multitude of Spanish town halls and other administrations of an autonomous and national nature.

The orange training is going to propose that talks be held at the schools of Primary and Secondary in the municipality, and the making of posters on the beaches to inform users of the need to care for and protect Posidonia.

The objective of the orange training is to change the image that a good part of the citizens and tourists have when they see the accumulation of plants such as posidonia on the beaches, mistaken for an algae.

"Although, more and more, public administrations are getting involved in carrying out these awareness campaigns, the City of Cartagena has not yet contributed its bit in this area to explain the importance of the oceanic posidonia in the conservation of the coasts, in the protection of the sands and in the maintenance of the fishing resources ", has indicated Manuel Padín that assures that" that that many people think that it is a luck of scrap is in fact the best test of the good quality of our waters. "

On the other hand, the orange formation is aware that the socio-economic pressure exerted by tourism on the coast has caused many local administrations to make bad decisions by improperly removing the beach topsails, even outside the summer season in Cartagena, such and as CTSSP-Podemos denounced, "this will eventually cost us dearly and will increase the feared erosion processes, which is why we are going to request that a municipal protocol be drawn up for the correct treatment, use and final destination of the topzones of our beaches ", has informed Manuel Padín.

The orange formation recalls that the Institute of Coastal Ecology of Alicante states that the arribazones minimize the effect of the waves and prevent the coastline from losing sand;

its presence enriches the biodiversity of the marine environment and guarantees its maintenance.

Cs has already consulted some of the protocols that exist in other municipalities, "there is a certain consensus to prohibit the removal of these plants during the winter and spring, when storms are more likely to occur, limit the use of heavy machinery, or establish provisional spaces for storing litter (when there is no other way) to decompose it and, after processing, give it the best possible use, among the many that it has ".
