The Old Cathedral and the La Mar de Músicas festival have been the central themes around which the meeting held today Friday by the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, and the Minister of Culture, José Guirao, which is today in Cartagena to support the inauguration of one of the city's main cultural events.
After the formal ceremony, which has also been attended by the Delegate of the Government in the Region, Diego Conesa, and in which the mayor has invited Guirao to sign in the Golden Book of the city and has given him two separate books on the Barrio del Foro Romano and on the Old Cathedral, have gone on to address several issues of interest for Cartagena's cultural heritage.
Although the reason for Guirao's visit to Cartagena was the beginning of La Mar de Músicas, "festival that I know because I've been in other years, very unique and of enormous quality", another theme has centered his visit to the city, the reform of the Old Cathedral, which the mayor has raised and has led to an announcement by the minister, "we must start from scratch, developing a plan of action to be able to intervene later, so the first thing will be to bring technicians from the Institute of Historical Heritage so that the study can be started ".
With regard to La Mar de Músicas, the Minister of Culture has made clear his intention to study an increase in the budgets of 2019, year in which, in addition, the festival celebrates its twenty-fifth anniversary.
Finally, the mayor invited José Guirao to the presentation, on October 1, at the National Archaeological Museum of Madrid, of the Muses that will be exhibited at the Roman Forum interpretation center, and has been "satisfied with the visit of the Minister of Culture, who has shown to know the socio-cultural reality of Cartagena and have a great sensitivity with regard to the needs of the city in terms of heritage.
Remember that José Guirao already knew the city of his time as general director of Fine Arts and Archives of the Ministry of Culture in the years 93-94, in which he managed the agreement with the City Council for the excavation of the Roman Theater and the project of the ARQUA.
