Morcheeba begins its tour of Spain at La Mar de Músicas (20/07/2018)

There is no chill out session where one of their songs does not sound.

Few groups like Morcheeba have shone so much since the mid-nineties, when they emerged, in the trip hop scene.

They joined as few electronic music with funk, soul and jazz ... After some breaks and reunions between brothers Godfrey and Skye Edwards come to La Mar de Músicas to present "Blaze away" this Saturday July 21, album that was released last 1 June and which is presented in Cartagena for the first time in Spain. In addition to Morcheeba on the stage of the festival will act Whomadewho, Kokoko !, Elkin Robinson and Cory Henry.

Morcheeba's new album has the characteristic mix of trip hop influences, psychedelic blues and downtempo soul.

His compositions continue to transport us to those exotic places so characteristic of the band.

His DNA is still that downtempo crossed by grooves of trip-hop, African déjàs, and riffs of guitars and sounds of sitar crowned by the intimate voice of Skye.

A very personal band, difficult to classify and that over the years has managed to carve a niche in the hearts of its followers, contributing in equal parts a deep well of melancholy and another of optimism.

The Danes WhoMadeWho, the first group of the Special Denmark that will act the festival, have become one of the most beloved electronics groups in our country thanks to their great live shows and their presence in festivals, with very fun direct and above all danceable

Formed in 2003, they are pioneers in what we know today as indie dance or electro indie.

The Danish trio consists of bassist and singer Tomás Hoffding (from Scandinavian underground rock), drummer Tomas Barfod (DJ and techhouse producer), and guitarist Jeppe Kjellberg (renowned avant-garde scene musician from New York) .

From such a mixture of genres and influences could only come out something explosive and so it has been.

Electrified sound and 100% danceable with influences from the last four decades but also futuristic, transgressive and experimental when mixing beats with instruments like the oboe, the bassoon or even some castanets.

To all this we must add that they are the preferred band of Daft Punk and LCD Soundsystem, who admire The Rapture or that people like Erol Alkan and 2manyDJs include them in any of their sessions.

Cory Henry in the Patio of the Old CIM

Cory Henry, explosive figure of modern funk, comes to Cartagena with one of the most stimulating recipes of jazz, gospel and rhythm & blues instrumental of the last times and with one of those groups, The Funk Apostles, that many stars would envy to have.

It is still hard to explain how this interpreter of Hammond B-3, who grew up in the world of gospel singing and playing the organ in churches as a child, ended up working for Kenny Garrett and Robert Glasper, and producing albums by Bruce Springsteen, Erykah Badu or The Roots.

Cory Henry (February 1987) is the keyboardist of Snarky Puppy, a group that updates instrumental soul like no other today and which we have already seen through the Cartagena Jazz Festival.

A musician who is amazing the world with his ability to renovate instrumental R & B, an organist capable of enthusing all audiences with his Hammond.

He is also a prestigious producer who has worked with some of the most prominent artists of the moment, including Bruce Springsteen, The Roots, Robert Glasper, Kenny Garrett and Erykah Badu.

His solo project culminated in 2016 with the album The Revival, edited by Ground Up, label of Michael League (leader of Snarky Puppy).

It portrays the power of this artist performing his repertoire with the Hammond b-3, with a repertoire that addresses the musical roots that mix soul, gospel and jazz.

The concerts of the day will begin at 8:00 p.m. in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento with Elkin Robinson.

Robinson is a musician and composer, born on the island of Providencia, located in the Colombian Caribbean, which has made Afro-Caribbean rhythms such as calypso, mento and zouk his main inspiration.

In his music, traditional genres from Providencia and the Greater Caribbean stand out, instruments such as the acoustic guitar, the horse's jaw and the tináfono (a tub that serves as a bass), along with positive messages sung in Creole, the native language of the island .

He comes to Cartagena to present his most recent album "Sun a Shine" produced by Richard Blair in which he proposes a trip through the Anglo Caribbean, rescuing rhythms such as gospel and country.
