A little less than a year ago a series of news and denials about the plans of the Nation's government to open a Temporary Immigrant Stay Center in Cartagena, specifically in the facilities of the former Cartagena Naval Hospital, which could hold between 5,000 and 6,000 "illegal" immigrants.
Today, it seems that the plans that had the previous government of the PP have resumed again by the conglomerate PSOE We can separatist parties and that the project continues its course, although technical problems may arise as the possible aluminosis of the structure of the building.
Given the possibility that sooner or later it will be decided to open a megacenter for illegal immigrants in our city, Vox Cartagena expresses its rejection of this project because it understands that this type of measures tend to encourage mass uncontrolled immigration and illegal trafficking of people .
This type of centers would not be necessary if an adequate control of immigration was carried out according to labor needs and integration capacity of the receiving country.
On the other hand, we understand that a center of this type and size would pose a serious security problem, since the work of identification and control would overwhelm the current National Police and Civil Guard crews.
Vox warns that there could be a collapse of the health services in Cartagena and, according to official statistics (Statistical Report on foreigners and crime prepared by the Coordination and Studies Office of the Secretary of State for Security, under the Ministry of the Interior) a rebound of crime, as well as the possible medium-term affectation to cruise tourism that is bringing so much prosperity to our beloved city.
