- "We find it embarrassing that the PP justifies this breach by charging against the European Federation of Cyclists, and ensuring that in an uncertain future they will try to incorporate a coastal itinerary, we already know what happens with the temporary solutions in this Region, which become permanent in 95% of cases, "warns the Citizen spokesman
The Ministry of Tourism and Culture has initiated the procedures for the implementation of the Mediterranean cyclist route 'Eurovelo 8' as it passes through the Region, and is already preparing an interior layout, without stages in Cartagena and the rest of the coast of the Mar Menor.
On the occasion of this decision, the spokesman for Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padín, reported today that his Parliamentary Group has already submitted a battery of questions to the Bureau of the Regional Assembly to learn the reasons why the regional government of the PP is breaking the agreement promoted by Citizens and has changed the route of Eurovelo as it passes through the Community so that it does not cross the municipalities of the Mar Menor and the rest of the regional coast.
On the other hand, Cs has stated to be completely in agreement with the recent communiqué of the main urban cyclists and cyclists of the Region of Murcia in which they defend that the route along the coast is the natural line of Eurovelo 8, "and we regret the short-sightedness and the arrogance with which the PP has acted to propose something contrary to what was approved by the Assembly, and above without previously listening to those who know best the reality of those who will make use of this infrastructure that will promote bicycle tourism "
Manuel Padín has announced that he plans to meet with some or all the groups that signed the statement to try to work on a path that does fit the orange proposal, "these groups have announced their willingness to work on an alternative path , and we want to support this initiative and prevent the regional government from doing more harm to the coastal populations of this Community ".
"We also find it embarrassing that the PP justifies this breach by charging against the European Federation of Cyclists, and ensuring that in an uncertain future they will try to incorporate a coastal itinerary, we already know what happens with the temporary solutions in this Region, which become permanent in 95% of cases, "warns the spokesman of Citizens that says" or prevent the internal route now or the Government will get away with it. "
According to Manuel Padín, "the regional government is deliberately disregarding the will of the Assembly because of some interests, and of many councils whose plenary sessions approved that this eminently coastal and Mediterranean route will pass through their populations."
"You just have to look at the maps of the route to realize that the only non-coastal section will be ours."
"We are not going to sit idly by while the PP government commits a new discrimination with Cartagena and its district," says Padín.
Cs was the party that proposed this initiative and for it managed to reserve half a million euros in regional budgets to promote Eurovelo, and it was also the orange formation which presented a motion to promote the project in Cartagena, San Pedro del Pinatar, Los Alcázares and San Javier, among others, "for which we feel especially aggrieved and outraged at this situation".
Finally, the Municipal Group of Citizens in Cartagena has informed that it had prepared a motion to request that the next regular plenary of July endorse request the Community a rectification of the route that is studying and incorporates Cartagena and the rest of the riparian populations of the Sea Minor on the 'Eurovelo 8' cycle route, "knowing that the municipal government was preparing an initiative in the same direction, we decided to request that it become an institutional declaration at the next plenary session."
The spokesman for Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padín, has assured that Cartagena "should not allow to lose this unique opportunity to generate income through the green economy and attracting investments from European and regional funds."
