As every year, on the occasion of the feast of the Virgen del Carmen, the Fishermen's Association has made a delivery of lots of fish to the charities of Cartagena.
Nearly 900 kilos of fish have been distributed among nine entities.
The entities that received this Monday, July 16, the lots of fish have been: the Cradle House, Charity Hospital of the Pines, Asylum of Elders of the Little Sisters of the Poor, Nazareth Tower, Sisters Cistencienses, Home Betania, the Social Dining Good Samaritan, Solidarity Dining Jesus, Teacher and Pastor and Santa Teresa.
The event took place in the Fish Market of Santa Lucia with the assistance of the Councilor for Social Services and Mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, the Chief Patron of the Brotherhood, Bartolomé Navarro and representatives of all the entities benefited by the lots of fish.
The fishermen show on the day of the feast of the Virgen del Carmen, their most supportive face as Ana Belén Castejón has declared, because this charitable event is the best way to celebrate the patron saint of the sea people, donating more than 800 kilos of fish to those who need it most.
In total, 882 kilos of fish have been donated in the Lonja de Santa Lucía, which has included: anchovy, sardine, mullet, mackerel and sea bream.
The Chief Patron of the Brotherhood, Bartolomé Navarro has said that the act of this day is the way that the fishermen of Cartagena have to put their grain of sand to alleviate a little the needs of the city.
In addition, Navarro explained that although the winter has been hard for the fishing fleet of Cartagena, because of the strong west winds that have hit the coast and that has kept the fleet moored for many days, the summer is getting better and this has made possible the donation of almost 900 kilos of fish.
