Ten young artists from Cartagena revisit the work of Hans Christian Andersen through his creations at La Mar de Músicas (12/07/2018)

"Andersen. Under Sun" is a new artistic proposal that presents The Sea of Music through the eyes of ten young local artists who, inspired by the texts of the Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen, have created a series of works expressly for the festival.

The result is a sample of current art that follows the steps of the visit that the Danish writer made to Cartagena in 1862 and that he would pick up in his book "Viaje por España".

In addition to artistic pieces, five young writers from the city do not miss the opportunity to give their literary vision of this trip and its famous children's stories like The Ugly Duckling, The Little Mermaid, The Snow Queen or The Lead Soldier.

The exhibition is a review of Andersen's literary work from an unprecedented perspective.

In it, the artists show, in the exhibition hall of the Ramón Alonso Luzzy Cultural Center, from a youth point of view, but without forgetting the strong personality of Hans Christian Andersen, his literary work and the historical context in which he lived.

"Andersen, Under Sun" aims to generate in the viewer a reflection on the city in which he lives and how it has changed over the centuries.

Your tour will invite you to ask, for example, how you would see the city Andersen in our days and if you would visit it in the same way, or what your impressions would be now, with the new ways of traveling and the boom of tourism.

Inspirational have served some of the texts that Andersen left written in his book "Travel to Spain," as this one describes a daydream that could well be a prelude to a work of art: "It was the last night in Cartagena, the city Asdrubal, in it I dreamed that I walked through the depths of the sea, between strange plants of exuberant frond, like the palms of Elche, that coiled around me, I saw precious pearls, but none had as much brilliance as the one I had seen in the Spanish eyes, the sea rolled over me with the sound of an organ, I felt imprisoned from the bottom of the sea and I missed the life above, the surface, and the sunlight. "

The artists participating in "Andersen Under the Sun" work different disciplines but all have in common their passion for Fine Arts.

For example, Mario Méndez and the artist "Catársis" come from the field of architecture and present an installation and a collage respectively;

Álvaro Perín is a graphic designer and has also been in charge of the exhibition design;

Aitor Cos and María Garres have a degree in Fine Arts and participate with an installation and pictorial work, along with literary works by five young writers from Cartagena such as Clara Herrero, Elena Trinidad, Mireya Encinas, Nur López and Sara Madrid.

The exhibition is complemented by another retrospective dedicated to Andersen, "Los viajes de Andersen".

Both are free and can be enjoyed at the Ramón Alonso Luzzy Cultural Center until August 31.
