The exhibition 'X Anniversary of the Museum of the Roman Theater' transfers to the visitor, through photographs, what meant the discovery of the Roman Theater in one of the most depressed neighborhoods of the city, almost thirty years ago.
Also, of the integral recovery, as well as the ten years of activity since its inauguration on July 11, 2008. The exhibition can be visited until October 22, in the Temporary Exhibitions Room of the Museum of the Roman Theater of Cartagena.
The exhibition was inaugurated on Wednesday, July 11, with the presence of representatives of regional and municipal governments.
On the part of the City of Cartagena, was the councilor of the area of ​​Culture and Archaeological Patrimony, David Martinez;
while for the Autonomous Community attended the counselor of the Government Spokesperson, Noelia Arroyo.
Also the director of the Museum of the Roman Theater, Elena Ruiz, and the archaeologist director of the excavations, Sebastián Ramallo, were accompanied by numerous personalities among which was attended by many mayors of the Municipal Corporation.
The exhibition is divided into four thematic blocks that collect through photographs, some from the Museum's photographic archive, others from photographers such as Díaz Burgos or José Albaladejo, texts in Spanish and English, and varied graphic documentation, the process of recovering the monument from the own evolution of the archaeological works, following with the parameters of the restoration and the execution of the integral project, work of the brilliant architect Rafael Moneo, as well as the evolution of the Museum after its inauguration.
In these ten years, the monumental complex has become an important cultural and tourist reference, both for its number of visitors and for the various awards it has received nationally and internationally, the most outstanding being the Europa Nostra Grand Prix, the category of restoration.
Since its inauguration, more than 1,630,000 people have passed.
In the global average of these years 70% do it individually and / or family, and 30% in group, as for the origin of the visitors, 48% are national visitors and 52% are foreigners.
The route through the graphic panels of the exhibition is surrounded by the exhibition of a selection of archaeological pieces that transfers to the visitor the usual works of investigation of the objects recovered in the excavation;
from the documentation of its context to its catalog, graphic representation and restoration.
As well as its necessary research and publication.
The publications of the Museum, and especially the catalogs about its Collections, have been the main channel of dissemination of the research work these years, so that its correct edition and dissemination is one of the priority tasks.
All this has made it possible to materialize a good number of bibliographic exchanges with institutions both nationally and internationally, thus reinforcing another line of action of the Museum linked to the formation of a specialized library.
The set is managed through the Teatro Romano Foundation, in which the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, the City of Cartagena and the Cajamurcia Foundation participate, and deals with the relative actions for the conservation and maintenance of the monument, as well as management in its cultural, educational, administrative, technical and economic aspects of the Museum.
One of the objectives in these years has been to promote the educational and cultural activity of the Museum, facilitating the understanding and understanding of the contents, also seeking the enjoyment of the visitor both school, family and public in general, through participation in activities complementary cultural
The Museum also deals with the promotion of the cultural offer, through temporary exhibitions, publications, contests, promoting its national and international diffusion, working for a very broad and diverse public, open to the digital world and the application of new technologies to improve the understanding and dissemination of his cultural legacy.
The commemoration of the X Anniversary, registered in the European Year of Cultural Heritage, offers the opportunity to reflect on its evolution in these years, as well as the necessary look towards the future, facing the first steps for the implementation of the intervention project, museum research and adaptation of the porch after the scene.
The Museum's future project is to undertake the excavation of the porticus post scaenam and its value.
The interventions carried out between 1999 and 2006 have allowed to know its architecture in broad strokes.
It is a large public space with a quadrangular plan, with a double gallery that surrounds a central landscaped space, planned in the same construction process of the Roman theater building.
The main objective of his research is to complete the understanding of the Roman theater and its enhancement, so that the recovery of this landscaped space will help complete the route, improve the compression of the monument as well as complete the urban and heritage recovery of this sector of the city.
The exhibition 'X Anniversary of the Roman Theater Museum' is open to the public from July 11 to October 22, in the Temporary Exhibition Hall of the Museum of the Roman Theater of Cartagena.
