During the plenary of this month of July, the Municipal Group of MC Cartagena will take an initiative, which will be presented by the mayor Ricardo Segado, so that a public space recovered in Los Mateos by the MAPS project is nominated as a 'Sebastian Gómez Fernández' square , in posthumous recognition to the person who was the goalkeeper of Efesé, who died last June at the age of 61.

Sebastián Gómez Fernández, born in Los Mateos, a neighborhood he never abandoned, developed his career at Cartagena FC, being one of the members of, as Segado recalled, "that Golden Generation of Cartagena football that made us vibrate with the football of Second A during the 80's in El Almarjal ".

Known football like Sebastián or 'El Sebas', he retired from football with Efesé and played his games in Cartagonova, in 1991, with Voltaire García on the bench, after playing more than sixty games in Segunda A.

In relation to Sebastián Gómez, the mayor of Cartagena recalled that "after his untimely death, his neighbors and friends launched an initiative to collect signatures to make them reach our City Council.This initiative, more than deserved, can not depend on the luck of this collection of signatures, it is fair to recognize those who deserve it and Sebastian deserves a public space in his neighborhood, with his own, and that is what we want in MC with this motion ".

Given this situation, Ricardo Segado has argued that "as a member of the Golden Generation and as part of that collective success, Sebastián Gómez will occupy a space in the Cartagonova municipal Stadium, but this does not prevent him from being personally recognized by Cartagena and his neighbors".

The councilor explained that "the space that is ideal is the square that we have recovered, together with the neighbors, through the MAPS project and the Fénix manifesto, a modest square, but located in the heart of its neighborhood and which is the fruit of the effort of the neighbors channeled by the local Administration ".
