The energy efficiency team UPCT Solar Team, from the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, has finished in 22nd out of the 143 teams participating in the Shell Eco-marathon Europe held last week in London.
The students of the UPCT obtained a mark of 204 kilometers per kilowatt hour, near their best historical record.
In the test, teams of young engineers from 24 countries competed to maximize the energy efficiency of their vehicles.
"We are very happy.
For us it is a milestone to have scored, surpassing the technical inspections and the qualifying screens ", highlights Antonio Guerrero, the team's coordinator, who previously had not gotten that far in the European test of low-consumption vehicles.
This year the competition team of the Polytechnic introduced improvements in the engine, in the control plate and in the transmission.
The first objective to overcome the technical inspections, they achieved it last Thursday.
During the weekend the test was carried out in the urban circuit installed in the British capital.
"Facing an integral engineering project, solving technical problems, implementing innovations and negotiating with suppliers and sponsors brings a great plus of employability to the students who participate in racing vehicle manufacturing equipment", explains Antonio Guerrero.
