The Multiple Sclerosis Association of Cartagena and Region (EMACC) and the Swimming Federation of the Region of Murcia have organized the IX Solidarity Journey "Wet for Multiple Sclerosis" in Playa Paraíso, which will take place on Sunday, July 8, at 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The mayor of Deportes, Obdulia Gómez, attended the presentation ceremony;
as well as the president of EMACC, M.ª Ángeles Ros;
and the president of the Federation of Swimming of the Region of Murcia, Ricardo Martínez.
The mayor of Sports has indicated that the competition will be two types of tests: a competitive, aimed at professional swimmers and amateurs in which 1,500 meters will swim the adult categories and 600 meters, children's;
and a non-competitive one directed to the population in general and to people with Multiple Sclerosis and their families, in which they will swim from 0 to 100 meters in solidarity.
He also added that the godmother of the sporting event will be the swimmer Margarita Domínguez, European Champion in Open Water in 2008 and World Runner-up in Open Water in 2010.
The price of registration for all the tests is 12 euros (for being of solidarity) for all categories and tests (including the 100 meters solidarity) and must be done through the platform Line of Exit.
A certificate of accreditation, supplies, and a Katuki Saguyaki T-shirt will be given to all participants.
The "Get Wet for Multiple Sclerosis" campaign, initiated by the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation of Spain (EME), is an act of citizen participation and fundraising, whose objective is to improve the quality of care for affected people and support research of Multiple Sclerosis.
This campaign, which celebrates 25 years at the national level, is an action of social awareness and solidarity with the more than 47,000 people who suffer Multiple Sclerosis in our country, and which is carried out from the different MS associations that exist in Spain.
It consists of swimming different meters (depending on the category) by a limited area on the beach or pool.
In the competitive events, a trophy will also be awarded to the first three of each category.
During the day information about the disease and the resources of the Association will be offered.
In addition, material designed by "Katuki Saguyaki" will be on sale: t-shirts, towels, beach bags, with the slogan "Wet".
In previous years, participation has always been very positive, counting, normally, with some 250 people (swimmers, volunteers, referees and other collaborators).
With these events EMACC hopes to bring the Multiple Sclerosis, which affects hundreds of people in the region of Cartagena, to the entire population.
In addition, he trusts that it will be an opportunity to disseminate his work and request support to maintain physiotherapy, rehabilitation, speech therapy and social and psychological services.
For this reason, EMACC asks the entire population, collaborators, friends, volunteers, sick people and relatives, for their collaboration and support in these charity and solidarity events.
