The Museum of the Roman Theater of Cartagena organizes routes and special activities in July (03/07/2018)

The Museum of the Roman Theater of Cartagena, whose foundation is integrated by the Autonomous Community, the City of Cartagena and the Cajamurcia Foundation, organizes this month of July different routes, themed visits and activities mainly aimed at the family audience.

In this way it offers a different story to the visitor every day of the week.

On Tuesdays and Sundays (11:30 am), as the main novelty, there will be a virtual visit to the Roman Theater of Cartagena 'New Experiences', which will allow attendees to immerse themselves, through virtual glasses, in the old building of Roman times, visualizing it in 360 degrees, flying over it and also enjoying a little pampering.

On Wednesdays there will be 'Theatrum: an afternoon of theater', which will allow participants to get to know Roman society through theater, religion and politics, discovering what great show buildings were like in the Roman Empire, the types of works that were represented or the people who acted.

The activity and visit to the museum and the theater will be at 6:30 p.m.

On Thursdays (11:00 am) the route 'Citizens of an Empire' is organized, which will depart from the Museo del Teatro Romano to continue through the Barrio del Foro Romano and the Casa Romana de la Fortuna.

For its part, on Fridays (11:30 am) you can access 'Pan and circus: gladiators, hot springs and theaters', which will start at the Punic Wall, where you can visit the exhibition 'Gladiators', then go through the thermal baths and finish at the Roman Theater.

A night tour, at 9:00 p.m., is the proposal for the Saturdays of the month of July.

In the theatrical visit 'Aulaeum, below the curtain', which will take place on the 7th and 21st, the Roman architect Vitruvio will offer the participants his vision of the theater, the most emblematic work promoted by Augusto in the old Carthago Nova.

The end of the trip will culminate with the appearance of the imposing grandstand of the Roman Theater in the light of the moon, reencontrándose with the classical theater of the hand of Plauto.

For Saturdays 14 and 28 of July, the proposal is 'The theater under the light of the moon'.

This visit will allow, in a relaxed and intimate setting, a tour that begins at the Roman Theater Museum, discovering the keys of Roman civilization, to end again with a visit to the monument.

In this sense, the general director of Cultural Goods, Juan Antonio Lorca, stressed that "from the Roman Theater of Cartagena, the most visited museum in our Region, we continue working to offer new attractions, so that the citizens of the Region and visit it during these summer months enjoy this recovered monument and become an emblem of cultural tourism ".

Lorca referred to the "magnificent work to retain and attract new audiences", which has allowed more than 1.6 million people to pass through the Roman Theater since its opening.

Thus, "the number of visitors continues to increase year after year, thanks to the new activities offered and, in the first months of this 2018, has grown 7.6 percent."

Schedule extension

The Roman Theater Museum expands its opening hours in summer, and opens from Tuesday to Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and on Sundays, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The usual museum tour that visitors can take begins at the museum itself and involves a journey back in time through its exhibition rooms, culminating with the appearance of the impressive Roman Theater grandstand.

There is the possibility of carrying out guided tours with prior reservation by calling 968 500 093 and 968 504 802.

As for the training activity, and in collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, will take place in this space, from July 16 to 18, the course 'Dissemination, communication and new technologies applied to cultural heritage', which will address the contribution of new technologies to improve the understanding and enjoyment of cultural heritage.
