The Gala of the XXV Annual Sports Awards Cartagena 2017 delivered its 11 awards, on Thursday, June 28, in the Auditorium El Batel.
A night in which the protagonist was sport, shining its most notable athletes.
The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, attended the event;
the general director of Sports of the Autonomous Community of Murcia, Alonso Gómez;
the Councilor for Sports, Obdulia Gómez;
the Councilor for Tourism, Maria del Carmen Martín;
besides the municipal councilors: Manuel Padín, José López, Antonio Calderon and Ricardo Segado.

The City of Cartagena, through the Department of Sports and in collaboration with the local media, announces these Annual Sports Awards Cartagena with the aim of recognizing the work of individuals and entities that, either by direct activity or personal initiative , or as participants in the development of the sports policy, they have contributed in an outstanding way to promote or spread sports physical activity in the municipality.
Ana Belén Castejón said in her speech that that night it had become clear that sport in the municipality is everyone's business in which it is necessary to add "because the more we are, the greater our successes will be.

In her speech the councilor expressed her admiration for the athletes.
"Sport is not only fun, it is also sacrifice.
Castejón paraphrased great Spanish athletes such as: Nadal, Casillas or Gasol to provide the vision of the spirit of sport.
In addition, Castejón wanted to put as an example to Francisco Domínguez, the winner to all the Sports Trajectory.
"He has managed to overcome adversity to achieve his goal, despite the difficulties that life has posed."
The mayor paraphrased Pau Gasol to exemplify this effort, "a few days will rain and others will leave the sun but for that you have to be there, although it is not always easy".
For her part, Councilor for Sports, Obdulia Gómez, added that the process of selecting the winners was not easy because there were many candidates deserving of these distinctions.
"Sport plays a fundamental role in our municipality and also has professionals of recognized national and international prestige."
Thus, the Jumillano and Cartagena athlete of adoption, Vicente Guardiola Poveda, and the soccer player of Jimbee, Mayte Mateo, were chosen athletes of the year 2017. Guardiola got last season the gold medal in the Championship of Spain decathlon, and Mateo, on the other hand, won the tournament IV Naciones de Guadalajara with the national team.
The Sporting Event of the year was for the Ciudad de Cartagena Triathlon;
the IES Mediterranean, will receive the prize to the School Center, for its promotion of the sport.
The coach and leader of the world of swimming, Francisco Dominguez, was named winner of the Sports Trajectory.
In addition, the prize for the Sports Spirit went to El Algar Volleyball Club - Juan Sáez;
the award for the Best Base Club was collected by the Mandarache Triathlon School.
The Revelation Entity of 2017 was for the SFC Minerva and CD Minerva Femenina, both football clubs have helped to consolidate this discipline in the Alumbres deputation.
In this regard, the general director of Sports of the Autonomous Community of Murcia, Alonso Gómez, explained that sport is "first of all personal improvement" and that sport is a principle that "has a lot to do with education because it is the pillar basic that strengthens a society. "

Antonio Morales Pérez, coach of the Playas de Cartagena CV, with a long career in this area, took the stage at El Batel to pick up the Best Trainer award.
