The fireman of Cartagena, Carlos Garranzo, who left on June 11 to Pakistan in an expedition that seeks to crown two eight-thousanders in two months, is already in the base camp of the Broad Peak preparing to start rotations to the Highlands that allow you to face the first phase of the ascent of the challenge that has been raised.
After 17 days of travel and a very hard 7-day trek through the Baloto Glacier, the climber Garranzo is already in the base camp of the Broad Peak resting and adapting to the altitude to begin to ascend one of the two peaks of more of 8,000 meters that has been planned to crown: the Broad Peak of 8,045 meters and the K2 of 8,611 meters.
Carlos Garranzo, who accompanies a Catalan expedition led by Sergi Mingote, is motivated to continue the difficult task that has been proposed and thus be able to complete the project that he undertook in 2014, when he was only 20 meters uphill. the summit to crown the Broad Peak, 8,045 meters high.
So far, Garranzo and his expedition, have already made the first transfer of material to 5,050 meters.
Fields of height C1 (5,800 meters) and C2 (6,300 meters) are installed and ready to start acclimatization rotations as soon as the weather permits.
The Palace Hall hosted, at the beginning of June, the act of presenting this challenge, in which the climber and mountaineer Cartagena explained the details of the expedition.
During the ceremony, the Councilor for Sports, Obdulia Gómez, outlined the enormous difficulty involved in the task that this mountaineer from Madrid settled in Cartagena has proposed.
