The congress of graphic engineering distinguishes the contributions of Fernando Cateura to TecMur2 to reduce the consumption and the times of a machine that seals glass jars for food
The Final Degree Project (TFG) in Mechanical Engineering by Fernando Cateura García, a 23-year-old from Murcia, at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, earned him the Innovation Award at the biannual congress of the Spanish, French and Italian graphic engineering associations. which was held this week at the School of Industrialists of the UPCT.
The young graduate took advantage of his three months of practice at TecMur2 to record the errors he noticed in the automatic glass can seamer that this company manufactures for agri-food companies, design how to solve them and verify that their innovations meet safety requirements.
With his TFG he achieved numerous improvements that have already been incorporated into the new distributed machines.
"I managed to reduce electricity consumption by one third and increase the number of motors needed by the machine from 5 to 3", highlights the former student of the Polytechnic, who also designed a new flexible piece of container holder to replace several fixed parts, "reducing the complexity of the operation of the machine for the end customer, who is an expert in agri-food but not in machinery, "adds Cateura.
With the same objective of streamlining work and reducing calibration times, the award-winning TFG also provides a more accessible actuator to facilitate the change of the pieces that receive the different types of caps.
A magnetic closure for the protective housing of the machine, which provides more security and avoids interruptions in the sealing process of the products, has been another of the innovations included in the Final Degree Project of Cateura, led by Professor Francisco Cavas , of the Graphic Expression Department of the UPCT.
Satisfied with the award and with his participation in the JMC congress, which has given him "experience in international meetings and the possibility of letting me know", the Polytechnic graduate hopes that some company will trust his talent to develop new improvements in the industrial machinery.
