The Regional Confederation of Business Organizations of Cartagena (COEC) held its Ordinary General Assembly today, an act that is the most important for companies in the region and serves to highlight the unity of the collective, as a fundamental pillar for economic development of the area.
The president of COEC, Pedro Pablo Hernández, began his speech by congratulating the organizations and business groups that are celebrating their anniversary, such as COEC Fuente Álamo for its 25th anniversary, AJE from the region of Cartagena for its 20 years, and Croem for its 40 years, whose president, José María Albarracín, wished many successes after his recent re-election.
He also congratulated the appointments of Alfonso Hernández as president of Fremm, and Miguel Martínez Bernal for revalidating his position at the head of the Chamber of Commerce of Cartagena.
He also referred to the main issues affecting the Comarca, with special attention to the pending infrastructures, describing as "disappointing" the pace of execution of the same, and especially the AVE to Cartagena and the Logistics Activities Zone (ZAL).
In this sense, he assured that "this rhythm is unaffordable for the economy and the productive fabric of this region and this region".
"These delays are unacceptable and we urge to accelerate each and every one of the pending infrastructures," he added.
Regarding high speed, Hernandez was convinced that the consensus is "the best way to work for the early arrival of the AVE", reiterating that the issue of deadline is a "priority" for entrepreneurs.
Therefore, he considered positive the appointment of Pedro Saura as the new Secretary of State for Infrastructure, to whom COEC has already requested a meeting, and who encouraged him to "bring the AVE to Cartagena, where it is deemed best and where it is considered most appropriate. , but bring it now, urgently, in the shortest possible time, because we can not assume the high opportunity cost, the brake on the economic growth of the region and the generation of employment that this implies ".
Regarding the ZAL, Hernandez said it will be "mission impossible" to be a reality this year, nor will the transfer of the free warehouse and the city of transport, "which is the most urgent and most affordable in the short term" .
Also, the president of COEC said that "it is not acceptable" the administrative delay that is suffering the port of El Gorguel and, in regard to the Mediterranean Corridor, stressed that "it is necessary and irrevocable your connection, to arrange a path with double platform to avoid bottlenecks in the medium term and, of course, contemplate the connection with the ZAL of Cartagena ".
However, Hernandez was hopeful with the upcoming opening of the regional airport for January next year.
"It will be the first infrastructure that with great joy will cross my speech for next year," said Hernandez, who since taking office in 2011 as COEC, and like his predecessors, continues with identical claims year after year.
PGOU AND FUTURE CHALLENGES
The president of COEC also stopped during his speech on other matters of vital importance to the Shire, such as tourism, water, the Mar Menor, and the General Plan of Urban Planning of Cartagena, on which he said that "they can not fit anymore. delays ", because" the direct damages to businessmen and the distrust that this situation generates for investment hampers the economic growth of the city ".
However, he thanked the Autonomous Community and the City Council for their "disposition" to address this issue.
"While we are trying to enter the infrastructures of the 21st century to be more competitive, the economies are evolving towards the digital and the new socio-economy, that of sustainability," said Hernández, for whom two of the main future challenges for The company is precisely the digital age and the economy of sustainability.
On the first, the president of COEC stressed that Cartagena is an enclave "very attractive to attract talent and generate start-ups", while the second advocated "encourage companies to adopt sustainable practices in their production processes and mark a environmental strategy, such as reducing the carbon footprint, the water footprint or applying sustainability bioindicators ".
"The Region of Murcia knows how to do it, these processes are not alien to us, let's take advantage of the moment and let's put ourselves at the forefront", he concluded.
