Next Saturday is celebrated throughout the municipality of Cartagena the festivity of the 'Night of San Juan', which puts at serious risk the "physical integrity" of local police officers given the experience of events in years previous, in which numerous groups of young people damage cars and homes even reaching, to throw firecrackers of great caliber against the agents and their official vehicles.
From the Trade Union Section of CSIF in the City of Cartagena we consider acts of vandalism such as setting fire to containers, creating barricades, and even going against the officers of the Fire Service of the Cartagena town hall, having to provide the defense shield agents , well into the night, to repel the avalanche of attempts of physical aggression, "evidence and demonstrate" one more year that the planned devices have always been "very insufficient" both by the number of agents and in coordination.
An example of all this is the sending of agents to the main sources of conflict when "everything was under way", there being no previous planning or dissuasion.
Looking forward to this year 2018 and thereafter, from the CSIF union we have proposed that a special device be created whose main objective is to "prevent and discourage", and have the "sufficient" number of personnel.
CSIF highlights as points in which to influence:
That the device of the afternoon shift be reinforced on the eve of San Juan in order to prevent large concentrations and the beginning of the overreaching of young people.
Have the presence of controls in the 'place' to increase the dynamism of the device and its coordination.
That the agents have defense shields from the first hour.
That all members of the device are informed about legislation related to night services and the use of pyrotechnic devices.
