The mayor asks the Autonomous Community for a budget for archaeological heritage in Cartagena (21/06/2018)

The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, today asked the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia for greater involvement in the archaeological recovery and enhancement, during the meeting of the Board of the Roman Theater Foundation of Cartagena, which has attended the regional president, Fernando Lopez Miras, and the Minister of Tourism, Miriam Guardiola.

Castejón stressed the privilege of having among the archaeological sites the Roman Theater, which at the beginning of the first quarter of 2018 had the objective of increasing the number of visitors and increasing the degree of loyalty, something that has been achieved with a growth of 4 , 7% in the number of users.

It also indicated the number of visits to the Roman Theater and its museum, which from January to May have reached 90,028, 7.6% more than during the same period of 2017.

The mayor explained that these data are the result of the joint work of local and regional governments and has asked the regional government to continue betting on the archaeological heritage of Cartagena, not only with regard to visibility, but also at the budget level.

During the meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Roman Theater Foundation, the new representative employers of the Autonomous Community have been appointed and the activity of the Museum has been reported in the first four months of 2018.

Likewise, the accounts for the fiscal year 2017 have been approved, as well as the specifications relating to the contracting of cleaning, surveillance and security, as well as maintenance of the Museum and the Roman Theater.

A ROMAN THEATER MORE ACCESSIBLE

During the meeting has also highlighted the implementation of a new project, which will be operational within a month, and improve the mobility of blind people within the Museum.

The system, designed by the company of the Murcia Neosistec Region, consists of an application that allows people with visual disabilities to move completely independently in unknown spaces, without the need to be accompanied.

It is a project of artificial vision, through visual markers, which will be perceived by an app on smartphones that will warn users of the obstacles and distance from their goal.
