The head of the regional executive, Fernando López Miras, presided today the meeting of the Roman Theater Foundation of Cartagena, the most visited museum in the region that, since its inauguration, has registered more than 1,623,000 visitors, according to the councilor of Tourism and Culture, Miriam Guardiola, before this meeting.
Between January and May the number of visitors has increased by 7.6 percent over the previous year, and is approaching 100,000 visitors, "which shows the good work that is being done from the Foundation", said the counselor.
61 percent have been national tourists, mainly from Madrid, Valencia, Andalusia and Catalonia.
Among foreigners, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, USA and Russia stand out.
Also, the Museum is at the forefront in the application of new technologies, and proof of this is the guided tour that can be done since last month, thanks to virtual reality.
Visitors to the Theater will travel to Rome in the 1st century BC thanks to a unique project in Spain and considered the first practical implementation of virtual reality used to visit an archaeological site, which places the Roman Theater at the forefront in the application of new technologies in the cultural field.
