The City of Cartagena and the SOI Foundation have launched the SOI Tourism initiative, for which a good part of the city's tourism offer has opted for solidarity tourism, allocating a part of the income to disabled people from Cartagena intellectuals can enjoy collective leisure.
This project has the funding of the Obra Social La Caixa, which has collaborated with 17,000 euros;
and the City of Cartagena, which has collaborated through the Department of Social Services and Tourism with 4,000 euros each;
which means a total of 25,000 euros.
The presentation of this initiative has been in charge of the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón;
which has been accompanied by the president of the SOI Foundation, Joaquín Barberá;
and the director of the Business Area of ​​Obra Social La Caixa, Carlos Merelo.
The mayor has indicated that with this initiative, Cartagena once again demonstrates that it is a pioneer in terms of inclusive projects, while at the same time it has stated that leisure places such as hotels and catering establishments have been made to make them more accessible both physically as cognitive.
For his part, Joaquín Barberá has highlighted two objectives with this program: increase funding for people with cerebral palsy with the goal of participating in leisure with much more support than another person who does not need it, with equal opportunities ;
as well as seeing that Cartagena is a truly exemplary city in terms of inclusive actions.
Carlos Merelo has indicated that this initiative will serve to put Cartagena on the map, "more than what is", with respect to inclusive tourism, he recalled that the collaboration that has made the Social Work La Caixa is a continuation of those that have been doing for years with the SOI Foundation.
There are already 19 establishments that have the distinctive 'SOI Tourism' and that offer products or services with which the client can support inclusion in leisure.
For example, 11 bars and restaurants have included a cover or a solidary menu in their menus;
4 leisure companies offer activities indicated as solidarity and 4 hotels derive 10% of the income of customers who arrive through the web www.soiturismo.es.

In addition, other hoteliers and hoteliers in the city can learn about the advantages of joining the list of collaborators.
'SOI Tourism' is a pioneering initiative in Spain, launched by the Inclusive Leisure Service Foundation to finance the support provided to people with intellectual disabilities.
From the organization have invited citizens to respond to this invitation to put their grain of sand and get a city that can enjoy people with and without intellectual disability.
Fundación SOI, which is an NGO created by Astus and Asido Cartagena family associations, provides these supports so that people with intellectual disabilities can choose what they want to do in their free time and do it with the rest of people without disabilities.
