The word yoga, which comes from Sanskrit, is translated as unity and refers, more specifically, to the union of body and mind that is achieved by practicing this activity.
The International Day of Yoga is celebrated on June 21, since in 2014 this was determined by the United Nations Union.
To commemorate this date, the City of Cartagena and the Association of the Acuarius Yoga Center have scheduled a series of activities under the theme "Yoga for Peace", which will take place on Friday, June 22, at the Plaza del Ayuntamiento.
To give an account of all the details, the mayor of Deportes, Obdulia Gómez, appeared before the media;
the secretary and professor of the association Acuarius yoga center, Ana Esther Escudero, and the president of the association, José Antonio Valera.
For the second consecutive year, the activities to commemorate the International Yoga Day will take place at the Town Hall Square starting at 8:30 p.m.
These activities are designed so that all people can perform them, whatever their physical conditions, because there is a type of yoga for each person.
The mayor of the area of ​​Quality of Life and Welfare, Obdulia Gómez, has indicated that "the celebration of this Day serves to raise awareness among the population about the benefits of yoga practice".
In addition, there are also activities designed to begin in this discipline all those people who have never practiced before.
As noted by the secretary of the association Acuarius yoga center, Ana Esther Escudero, yoga is not a sport "but a way of life, a physical, mental and spiritual practice" and its realization brings great benefits to physical and mental health of the person who does it.
Thus, on Friday June 22, those who come to the Plaza del Ayuntamiento may participate in the activities of the different disciplines of yoga such as Kundalini, Iyengar, Yug-Yoga, Meditation and Sahaja.
The president of the Acurius Yoga Center association, José Antonio Valera, has specified that the activities proposed for the celebration of this day contribute to the "meditative, health and conscience states for those who practice it." That is why a public space, such as the Town Hall Square, the realization of them, so that everyone has access and feel part of this celebration.
In addition, in Cartagena it is important to continue with the visibility of the benefits that yoga brings, since it is a pioneer municipality in the practice of this discipline for 40 years, when the Acuarius yoga center opened its doors.
