The National Contest of Cante by Cartageneras'Perlas a Millares' awarded its awards (18/06/2018)

Cartagena breaks into the national flamenco scene with the celebration of the National Contest of Cante by Cartageneras 'Perlas a Millares' that celebrated the final on Saturday, June 16.

The three singers who won the contest were: Antonio Porcuna (Córdoba), he won the Pearl Award for Millares 'Antonio Piñana' awarded to the most complete cantaor of the contest;

José El Petro (Paterna de Rivera), was the Cartageneras Award 'Concha la Peñaranda';

and Víctor Palacios (Barcelona) won the Cantas de Compás prize 'Cartagena Jonda'.

This contest has been part of the Cartagena Flamenca Week 'Perlas a Millares' has completed an intense week of activities throughout the city with flamenco recitals in squares and bars, cajón and palmas workshops, courses and exhibitions.

The week was born as a response to the good reception that flamenco is having in Cartagena for years and at a time when the port city has regained its leading role in the regional flamenco agenda.

The National Contest of Cante by Cartageneras has had two objectives: to highlight and highlight the Flemish palos de levante, and especially the Cartagenera, as important styles of flamenco;

and that of returning to Cartagena its weight and prominence in the history of flamenco.

The success of the call, which has attracted artists from Jerez, Seville, Barcelona, ​​Cordoba, Granada, Lorca and also locals, as well as demonstrating that Cartagena continues to be an important place in flamenco, has led to a close and high-level competition artistic in which three singers have been winners: Antonio Porcuna (Córdoba) has won the Perlas a Millares Award 'Antonio Piñana' awarded to the most complete cantaor of the competition;

the young Marian Fernández (Granada) and Miguel Angel Lara 'El Canario' (Seville) received diplomas as finalists.

David Martinez, Councilor for Culture of the City of Cartagena has been responsible for delivering the Pearl Award to Millares, as well as the special mention of the Ginés Jorquera Literature Competition, awarded to Francisco Paredes Rubio (La Unión);

Fermín Rol Rol, General Director of the Port Authority, has presented the Concha La Peñaranda Award;

Noelia Arroyo, Transparency Councilor of CARM, presented the Cartagena Jonda and Fernando Saenz de Elorrieta Prize, representing the Ars Nostrum collective, the "Ginés Jorquera" Prize of the Cartagena Letter Contest awarded to Rafel Domínguez of Seville, which was collected by Julio Jorquera García, son of the contest owner.

The trophies, by the well-known sculptor Fernando Sáenz de Elorrieta, abstraction from Perlas a Millares, are made of stainless steel and corten steel.

Besides the artistic level, other factors such as the successful placement of the stage in the interior courtyard of the School of Business Sciences (former CIM) with an exquisite decoration and sound of the space, have contributed to the success of the flamenco event "Perlas a Millares" "With an audience full of fans from all the Region of Murcia.
