- The orange training spokesman, Manuel Padín, warns that, despite the agreement reached by all political forces, Cartagena is facing a new summer with insufficient shade in streets and children's areas, "with the risks to health what that entails, especially for the most vulnerable groups, such as children and the elderly "
Citizens will ask at the next plenary for the breach of the agreement reached unanimously in June 2017 on the municipal plan of shadow that Cartagena needs and that will become indispensable in the coming months.
"We want to know if the city of Cartagena will have to face again a summer of high temperatures and deficiency of shadows in streets and children's spaces, despite the motion passed a year ago unanimously, with the dangers and risks that entails for health, especially of the most vulnerable groups, such as children and the elderly ", claims the spokesman of the Municipal Citizens Group, Manuel Padín.
The municipal plenary session approved a motion presented a year ago by the orange training to study the needs of shading of the streets and squares of the old town, as well as playgrounds and courtyards of public schools.
The agreement also included the carrying out of campaigns of prevention and awareness on the use of sunscreen, and the preparation of a list of solutions to the lack of shade of the schools of the municipality to move it to the Autonomous Community in order to collaborate with the Regional Shadow Plan for schools;
but until now the local Executive has not done anything agreed by all the political forces of the City Council.
"The installation of pergolas or areas of trees are some of the solutions we propose to make more passable and attractive the passage of pedestrians through the city of Cartagena during all months of the year," says the orange spokesman recalls an interview published by local media where the dermatologist D. Fernando Alarcón highlighted the importance of awareness in local public administrations to protect the population from the most damaging effects of excessive sun exposure and the need to implement municipal policies in this regard.
In relation to playgrounds, Cs warns that many are underutilized during the hottest months of the year due to the absence of shaded areas, and finally recalls the motion approved also in June 2017 on the protection of the arboreal heritage of Cartagena.
"It was agreed to initiate the procedures for the design of an ordinance for the protection and promotion of the local arboreal heritage, but it is a breach of this Executive," laments the spokesman Manuel Padín.
