The city of Cartagena has offered to welcome refugees from the ship Aquarius who will arrive shortly at the port of Valencia.
In this sense, the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, has indicated that "the municipality of Cartagena is a friendly and supportive as it has already demonstrated in many situations of humanitarian crisis and this occasion will show it again by lending all the help from the Federation Spanish Municipalities and Provinces are required. "
Castejón also recalled that Cartagena belongs to the intermunicipal network for the reception of refugees since September 2015 and has offered to provide all the necessary help to the immigrants who are on board the ship Aquarius.
The FEMP (Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces), at the request of the Vice President of the Government, Carmen Calvo, is coordinating the reception of the more than 600 people who are confined to this ship.
This body has contacted the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, to inform that a municipal coordination office has been opened to help the refugee in which we are asked for information about the means we can provide in this humanitarian emergency.
In this sense, the Department of Social Services is already working to respond to the request received from the FEMP.
