The Ministry of the Presidency, through the General Directorate of Citizen Security and Emergencies, activated at 11:00 a.m. today, in the pre-emergency phase, the External Emergency Plan for Chemical Risk of the Escombreras Valley, due to a cloud of smoke detected in the Repsol plant.
Immediately, from the services of the single telephone of Emergencies 1-1-2, the company was coordinated with the adoption of preventive measures adapted to the circumstances and the issuance of notices to the population, at the same time as offering the collaboration of means that resulted precise.
In this regard, the population of nearby towns was recommended to confine themselves in closed spaces, keeping doors and windows closed in a preventive manner, while the company stopped the emissions.
The director of the Presidency, Pedro Rivera, as well as the general director of Citizen Security and Emergencies, José Ramón Carrasco, as well as inspectors from the Directorate General of Energy and Industrial and Mining Activity, moved to the factory.
At 12:30 hours, once the cloud dissipated, caused by the rupture of a pipeline, Repsol has terminated the incident, and the confinement measures have been lifted.
