The authors of the best informative workshops of the Campus of Engineering, awarded today by the Seneca Foundation, are already thinking about cultivating what they want to show next year, according to one of the professors of the CEIP La Concepción, from Cartagena, who won the contest with IES José Planes de Espinardo.
The teachers who have accompanied the students have highlighted the interest in science and technology that their pupils have acquired thanks to this initiative.
The exhaustive scientific method with which the small students of the CEIP La Concepción investigated the conditions that need the plants to develop and the diverse experiments on the water that realized the students of the IES José Planes captivated to the jury of the Campus of the Engineering of the UPCT , that designated them winners of the Seneca Foundation prize to the best workshops exhibited by educational centers during the informative fair of the Polytechnic of Cartagena.
"There is a lot of work for engineers in Europe.
In the next five years, 1,200,000 engineers will be missing. "
With this statement, the General Director of Universities and Research, Juan Monzó, today encouraged the winners of the 2018 Campus of Engineering Awards to direct their studies towards the disciplines related to science and technology.
Monzó has highlighted that in Spain only one out of every hundred people is studying Engineering.
"There are few and since 2013 enrollment has fallen by 20%," he said.
Therefore, "when companies are going to hire engineers, there are very few".
The general manager has encouraged the winners to work hard, since "the effort always has a reward".
In the same vein, the Vice Chancellor for Research at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT), Beatriz Miguel, has encouraged the winners to continue working "because the effort always leads to a good port".
The awards have been delivered today in the Ministry of Employment, Universities, Business and Environment in an act that has been attended by the Vice Chancellor for Research, Beatriz Miguel, the Director General of Universities, Juan Monzó, and the director of the Seneca Foundation, Antonio González
The Seneca Foundation awards a trip to the Museum of Science and Water and Terra Natura to the students of the Cartagena school and with a trip to the Museo Principia in Malaga to the students of the Murcian Institute who carried out the experiments during the Campus of Engineering, and their classmates with those who prepared them for months thanks to the course for teachers who made their tutors through the Center for Teachers and Resources (CPR) of the Community.
The Campus of Engineering is the flagship activity of the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, which has the support of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology - Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness.
The Séneca Foundation supports the Engineering Campus by attending scientific exhibitions every year and financing the award for the best workshops of the educational centers.
