Los Rincones Flamencos will fill the streets of Cartagena with flamenco music in the Flemish Week of Cartagena, Perlas a Millares.
Emblematic places in the history of flamenco in the city will be stages of these performances, which will take place from June 7 to 17.
Posada Jamaica has been the chosen place to present this wide program of performances.
The Councilor for Culture, David Martínez, together with the flamenco expert, Génesis García, and the vocalist of Peña Flamenca Antonio Piñana (organizer of the Flemish Week of Cartagena), Dori del Valle, offered all the details of the historic sites where the flamenco recitals will happen.
"These Rincones Flamencos, within Perlas Millares, aims to bring flamenco music to different places in the city and also at different ages, because the idea is to bring culture to the whole world," said the mayor of Culture in this presentation.
The flamencologist, Génesis García, has referred in the presentation to the special way that Cartagena fans have to live flamenco, and wanted to emphasize that in Cartagena this activity is not institutional, although they appreciate the collaboration of the City of Cartagena, the Polytechnic University and the Autonomous Community, "the impulse that flamenco in Cartagena has emerged is from the population, some flamenco fans that existed in Cartagena to which Peña Antonio Piña has put them in bed".
García has also reviewed the history of flamenco in the city, because according to the flamencologist, the history of flamenco in the Levant was developed in Cartagena, and has been maintained over the years in Cartagena.
Special mention has also made to one of the scenarios of these cantes, La Posada Jaimaica, managed by the mythical 'El Alpargatero Red' that turned the place into an inn where the muleteers, or the miners converged and where professionals were also hired to that they acted, like Antonio Chacon, the Peña Aranda, that coexisted with the popular cante.
Another of the emblematic places that Garcia has wanted to highlight has been the Molinete, where there is the testimony of Ramón J. Sender in his novel about Cartagena, 'Mister Witt en el Cantón' linked to another form of marginalized flamenco, the modernist form of Live flamenco, as reflected in La Turquesa Tavern.
