The emerging art festival, organized by the Department of Culture of the City of Cartagena, has organized a program of artistic interventions aimed at that goal of raising public awareness of this serious problem.
On this day, the UN asks individuals and governments, from companies to civil society to become aware of participating in the taking of concrete measures to combat plastic pollution.

- # 24HorasSinPlastic.
Living 24 hours without being in contact with plastics is the challenge posed by the Mucho Más Mayo festival to a group of volunteers during the 24 hours of World Environment Day.
The volunteers who will live this experience will be: Magdalena García Iniesta, Alba Blaya Sanmartín, Jakob Müller, Sophie Paquay and José Angel Vivancos.
All of them will try to live without being in contact with the plastic, an objective that entails a high degree of difficulty given the ubiquity of plastic in our lives.
The idea is to document the experience by third parties and collect the written testimony of the participants, which will be reflected on the festival website.
Last Thursday, May 31, two volunteers from the Association for the Protection of Cabo de Palos, PROCABO, went to the Ramón Alonso Luzzy Cultural Center to give a talk to these volunteers.
The members of PROCABO showed the origin of plastics and the various ways in which they are present around us.
In the end, they gave different guidelines to analyze the use we make of plastics and to apply the '3R': reduce, reuse, and recycle in our daily lives.
The PROCABO association has carried out several cleanings on the beach of Cabo de Palos, where citizen science is also carried out, and is immersed in a campaign to turn Cabo de Palos into a town free of marine debris, together with other groups of the area, including neighbors and diving clubs.
The public school Vicente Ros also reduces the consumption of plastics
The CEIP Vicente Ros de Cartagena joins the campaign # SinContaminaciónporplásticos, and will collaborate with the festival Much More May in the activities organized with this motive.
The initiative aims to reduce the consumption of plastics in their educational community, and the acquisition of more sustainable guidelines.
The activities began on Tuesday, May 29, with the delivery of a file to each of the 468 students at the center.
The form had to be completed with information about the materials used to transport the daily breakfast to the school.
The data will be sent to the families along with some recommendations on how to reduce the consumption of single-use and non-recyclable materials, which constitute the bulk of the solid waste produced by the school.
Likewise, the last phase aims at the collection of consumption data once the families have been informed and compared with the previous ones, in order to estimate the positive impact of the campaign, focusing on the modification of guidelines and habits that reduce the consumption of plastics and other non-recyclable elements or those that have only one use.
The Coordination of Associations of José María Lapuerta joins the World Environment Day with a cleanup of the neighborhood
The activity chosen by Associations of José María Lapuerta to join this initiative is called 'Cleaning the environment of our neighborhood'.
Its objectives are: to clean the surrounding area of plastic, paper, glass and clothing from waste.
The participants will leave the environment of the pharmacy until they reach the neighborhood limits, using bags of different colors to deposit the waste.
Afterwards the waste will be deposited at two points of the route, where the services of the City will collect them for recycling.
The activity wants to raise awareness of how dangerous plastic is and to become aware of the need to act from home, work or neighborhood.
