The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, recalled on Thursday to the Autonomous Community and the central government that the decontamination of the railroad track that crosses the Hondón must be carried out with the project on the surface and with the burial.
"This morning we woke up with the news that experts from the Polytechnic University and the Ministry of Environment recognized what we had been saying for a long time from the City Council;
that decontamination is necessary even if the project is on the surface.
The extension of the railway and the works of the viaduct of the highway require work on a contaminated land that will have to be adapted without this entailing any delay, "said the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón.
The first mayor explained that the land that crosses the railway belongs to Adif and that, therefore, it should be this body that deals with its decontamination.
"I am very surprised that the president of the Community is unaware of the reality of the second largest municipality in this Region.
I should know that these lands are Adif's and not municipal property.
You can not mix the urban project with the railway because they have nothing to do with it.
We will have to decontaminate when we start the urban project, the railway, I insist, Adif is occupied, "he said.
For all this, Castejón has stressed that the project presented by the neighbors, which involves the construction of a new route parallel to the old road of La Union, would be the only one that would not require decontamination as it does not cross the Hondón lands, although Yes, it would be subject, like any railroad floor, to a Declaration of Environmental Impact and to the potentially contaminated soil project.
It must be remembered that in the 2012 General Plan, when the municipal corporation was governed by the Popular Party, it included a reserve of land for railway use right on the land adjacent to the La Unión highway, which they now propose to use the neighbors .
"This proposal is not an invention of mine nor a lurch.
The neighbors, thanks to the multiple delays of the Popular Party, have had plenty of time to think and my obligation is to listen to them and analyze their proposal.
I can not turn a deaf ear as the Community and the Government have done.
It is ironic that they now propose a participation committee when they did not want to listen to the neighbors on Monday, "said Castejón.
