From the 29 to the 31 of May the Days on the Industrial Patrimony of the Region of Murcia are celebrated, organized by the Sierra Minera Foundation and by the General Direction of Cultural Assets of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture of the Region of Murcia with the collaboration of the Cartagena City Council, within the framework of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018.

The Councilor for Culture of the City of Cartagena, David Martinez, attended Tuesday in the Hemicycle of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Murcia, the opening ceremony and initial conference of these days, which aim to enable a broad and rigorous social debate , technical and academic, on how to advance in the protection, conservation and recovery of heritage and industrial landscapes of the Region of Murcia, in the context of how this important area of ​​our cultural heritage is being addressed in our country and at European level.

Today, Wednesday 30 and tomorrow, Thursday, May 31, they move to Cartagena, specifically to the ETS of Architecture and Building, of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, where the present and future of industrial and mining heritage will be addressed in Spain, as well as in Europe. , through the European Route of Industrial Heritage (ERIH).

Then we will enter the analysis of industrial heritage in the Region of Murcia, with a global perspective of it, as a memory of work and industrialization, and its tourism value, and with various communications and debates that will address in greater depth the situation and the potential of the most outstanding elements of the industrial heritage of the Region of Murcia: the mining heritage of Mazarrón, the industrial landscape of the Sierra Minera de Cartagena-La Unión, the Arsenal de Cartagena, the pier of El Hornillo in Águilas and the salineras facilities of the region, as well as the identification and valuation of the industrial heritage from the classrooms.

The two working sessions at the Architecture ETS of Cartagena will be complemented with an on-site visit to the industrial heritage of the Sierra Minera de Cartagena-La Unión, on the morning of May 31, organized from the Interpretation Center of the Las Mine. Matildes.

The visit will conclude with a meal in Portman.

In addition, a photographic exhibition on the Industrial Heritage of the Region of Murcia has been programmed, which has been assigned by the Official Association of Industrial Engineers of the Region of Murcia, which can be visited in the cloister of the Faculty of Law of the UMU. on June 15.
