The Local Police of Cartagena is carrying out from May 28 to June 3 a monitoring and control campaign on the municipal ordinance of tenure and care of companion animals.
With this campaign, which will feature acting as well as non-uniformed units, all pet owners will be made aware of compliance with current regulations.
The agents will control that the owners of their animals carry the documentation, take the microchip, the belt or the insurance in the cases that the animals are potentially dangerous.
In addition, it will be monitored that compliance with the collection of depositions made by animals on public roads.
The municipal regulations oblige the owners to obtain the Sanitary Card of their pet and take it with them when they circulate on public roads, as well as to register them in the municipal census of pets.
It also states that in public spaces, pets must be held by a leash, chain or collar and those classified as potentially dangerous, have the obligation to wear the muzzle corresponding to their breed and be driven with a non-extendable leash.
The law obliges the owners to maintain the spaces in which the animals live in good cleaning conditions.
In addition, if these spaces are outside, they must be constructed with waterproof materials and avoid that pets are not exposed to the sun or rain.
INCIDENTS AND INFRACTIONS REGISTERED IN 2017
Of the infractions that were registered during the past year, 25 were due to animal abandonment, 23 due to animal bites, 11 due to animal abuse, 8 due to animal noise.
Likewise, 7 dead animals were found in the public road and 18 were lost.
