The XII edition of the AOTEC Technology Fair for local telecommunications operators, to be held in Cartagena on May 31 and June 1, will feature 95 companies to showcase the latest innovations in ultrafast broadband networks in the face of the era of all connected ', and address the trends that will mark the coming years, such as cybersecurity, the Internet of Things (IoT), smart cities or the 5G.
The fair, national appointment of reference for the companies that form this sector, has experienced a growth of 30% in the number of stands compared to the previous edition to reach the 148, which cover the more than 2,000 square meters of exhibition space distributed in two plants of the Faculty of Business Sciences of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena.
It is one of the largest professional meetings that will host the autonomous community of Murcia this year.
The president of AOTEC, Antonio García Vidal, has indicated that the increase in companies and space demonstrates the "liveliness and dynamism of the sector", formed by more than 1,000 SMEs settled in populations of less than 50,000 inhabitants throughout Spain and which is immersed in a territorial expansion: on the one hand the protagonized by consolidated companies that are extending to new localities and on the other by the incorporation of entrepreneurs who start their journey in this field.
The professional meeting, which will be held under the slogan 'Technology to connect the world', brings together the main international and national suppliers of both advanced technological solutions in telecommunications, and the production of audiovisual content (cinema, series and documentaries) and complementary services (management, cybersecurity, etc.).
The show returns to Cartagena where it was born 12 years ago with "renewed energies" and a complete program that includes technical conferences and expert presentations to analyze the situation and the future of telecommunications.
Currently "we are in the era of hyperconnectivity, immersed in a profound technological change, where companies and citizens are increasingly more intensive in data consumption" due to the growing demand for streaming video, online content on demand, the principle of virtual and augmented reality, as well as multimedia social networks, to which it is necessary to unite the increasing number of automated connections between machines (M2M).
A trend that will increase exponentially in the coming years, explains García Vidal, who points out that the local operator has been installing fiber capable of assuming these enormous volumes of data for years, and is in a process of "continuous innovation" in both technology and services. to respond to the new needs of homes and businesses, as well as the evolution of Smart cities.
Future technology
The AOTEC Fair is a reflection of the current offer of these companies and the future.
The local operator today facilitates the so-called quadruple-play, which adds to broadband Internet, mobile telephony, fixed and television content.
In addition, in many cases they enrich their audiovisual proposal with the own production of a local channel, and provide additional services, such as security in homes and businesses or even electricity and gas.
In the exhibitor area you can find the latest advances in fiber optic networks, the most advanced fixed broadband technology nowadays, as well as connections in mobility, new models of mobile terminals, as well as complementary services and products that range from cybersecurity, going through business management tools, to developments oriented to the 'cloud' or the so-called Internet of Things.
This allows the local operator to continue to improve their broadband networks, increase efficiency in technological and business management, update both their television and mobile offer and expand their services to their users.
On the other hand, it is a space for dialogue and meeting with the administrations and the industry where they can learn first-hand about the regulatory evolution and the lines of technological development that will mark the future.
In this regard, one of the attractions of this meeting are its technical seminars and a series of presentations by experts in different areas of telecommunications.
The broadband technology they deploy means that citizens and businesses can 'connect to the world', opening new possibilities in their way of relating, working, training or having fun.
They contribute to reduce the digital divide and boost the local economy.
He also recalled that these companies are creators of stable and qualified employment in rural environments, which are called to evolve technologically.

The exhibition, organized by the National Association of Local Telecommunications Operators, was born in 2007 from the need to gather in a single space the technologies and services required by the local telecommunications operator and that have been expanding and evolving over time.
In this way, the fair has been a reflection of the growth and profound transformation that the sector has undergone towards professionalization and the generation of specialized employment.
The AOTEC Technology Fair started in the municipality of Cartagena (Murcia) and since then it has gone through Almansa (Albacete), Madrid, Aranjuez (Madrid) and Seville, returning this year to Cartagena.
