"We think the moral support of the City Council is very good and we celebrate the reading of the manifesto but we remember that the plan of actions that the delegation in Cartagena of the Association of Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis (ACCU) proposed and that the Plenary is still pending approved unanimously in April 2017, "said orange spokesman, Manuel Padín
After the reading today in the Consistorial Palace of a manifesto on the occasion of the World Intestinal Inflammatory Disease Day (EII), the spokesman for Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padín, recalled that is pending since April 2017 the execution of a plenary agreement promoted by his Group to apply in Cartagena a battery of measures in support of those affected by Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
"We think the moral support of the City Council is very good and we celebrate this initiative but we remember that the plan of actions that the delegation in Cartagena of the Association of Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis (ACCU) proposed and that the Plenary approved for unanimity, "said the orange spokesman, we hope that" the good gesture that the mayor had today to allow me to participate in reading the manifesto, followed by another demonstrating that he has the political will to execute our proposal. "
The 2017 agreement obliged the City Council to issue a card or identification card of the patient who voluntarily requested it to claim emergency stops on public transport, (as long as the service needs allow it), use the WC of public buildings municipal, free of charge and as a priority, and whenever identification is presented.
In addition, the agreement that the Government did not want or knew how to implement included promoting an agreement to use the toilets of the hoteliers and merchants free of charge and priority, including a list with the businesses attached to the agreement on the municipal website, promoting with Hostecar the use of a special badge to easily identify these establishments from abroad and study the convenience of authorizing parking in places of disabled, loading and unloading, for a limited time and minimum to be able to use the toilet.
The 2017 agreement also obliged the Government to urge the Regional Assembly to carry out information campaigns and promote actions to promote research and measures to facilitate the early diagnosis of this pathology to improve the quality of life of those affected.
The Citizens motion arose as a result of a meeting with members of the delegation in Cartagena of the Association of Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis (ACCU), Ramón Ballester and José Manuel Martínez.
The members of ACCU transferred a series of proposals to the Citizens' spokesperson to contribute to the improvement of the quality of life of those who suffer from this disease.
This Association calculates that only in the District of Cartagena there are about a thousand affected by the Intestinal Inflammatory Disease (IBD) (although the number increases every year, and there is an invisible bag of undiagnosed cases);
a chronic, idiopathic, complex pathology that affects the digestive system and that today remains a great unknown by society.
Ulcerative Colitis (UC) and Crohn's Disease (CD) are the most common conditions within IBD, and the associated symptoms are: growth retardation, fever, loss of appetite, fatigue, night sweats, primary amenorrhea, severe diarrhea , pain and rectal bleeding, among others.
This disease affects mainly young adults, increasing its incidence among children, and its diagnosis is usually slow and complicated: 17 percent of those affected are usually diagnosed after five years from the onset of the first symptoms.
They also regretted the little help they receive from public bodies because, according to this Association, the table of disabling diseases is very obsolete and they have many obstacles to get their degree of disability recognized.
According to Manuel Padín, "many of these people end up suffering serious episodes of anxiety and depression, tend in many cases to isolate themselves and not even their family and social environment is aware of what is happening, they also have many difficulties in their work environment".
For the spokesman, "there are many fronts on which we can act from public institutions, to improve the quality of life of these patients, to raise awareness of this disease, promote recognition and facilitate more research in this field to discover its causes, that today are still not clear. "
