The Regional deputy of Podemos, Miguel García Quesada has informed that Podemos will take to the Regional Assembly an initiative for the Regional Government to take the necessary measures and agreed with the owners of the Cathedral of Cartagena, to be preserved, protected and declared as a Memorial of the Spanish Civil War.

García Quesada, explained that the Church of Santa María la Vieja, better known as The Cathedral of Cartagena, is an emblematic building of our history, this is located on the Roman Theater, which partly nourished its structure, and also charged a important role during the civil war, where it was the target of bombings, which makes it a memorial of suffering.

For this reason, said the deputy Regional of Podemos, "We propose to keep it in the state it is in, without reconstruction, to serve as a historic building and recognize through it our most recent history" so any work of conservation must ensure that it can be accessed and used for cultural and religious events with total security for visitors, and without the state of neglect that currently presents. "For which, he said, García Quesada" we will propose to the Regional Government, to agree on measures between Culture and the owners of this building so that it can be restored and can be visited as a Historical Building ".

In this regard, from the Secretary of Culture of the Region of Murcia, its head, Tania Rojo has informed that Podemos Region adheres with the signatures of its members to the manifesto By the Study and Restoration of Santa María la Mayor "Santa Mater eclesia Carthagenensis in Hispania ", which emanates from the civil society that joins to defend the heritage and history before the inaction of the current government and the Diocese of Cartagena with respect to the measures to be adopted with the ruins of the Cathedral".

For this reason, Tania Rojo explained, "from the Ministry of Culture of the Region of Murcia, we publicly express our support for all initiatives that seek to protect the remains of this church, which is at the same time suggestive space, unique landscape, witness of the passage of time, historical document and collective memory of Cartagena ".
