The regional government claims to the Ministry of Development that the AVE arrives in Cartagena without further delay and that its definitive urban integration in the city be developed, once decontaminated the land of El Hondón.

The Community defended, during the meeting of the Technical Commission of Follow-up, held in Madrid, the arrival of the AVE to Cartagena through the station Víctor Beltrí, which will be remodeled to adapt it to the high speed, so that this infrastructure "is a reality as soon as possible".

"A different solution would paralyze the arrival of the AVE to Cartagena, since it would be conditioned to the work of decontamination of the land of the Hondón, which can last several years, according to the City Council, and we can not afford that," said the general director of Transport, Coasts and Ports, José Ramón Diez de Revenga, who recalled that the decision of the regional government coincides with the agreement reached in 2016 by the Board of Directors of Cartagena Alta Velocidad, composed of the three administrations, central, regional and local, which consisted of developing the solution so that the AVE arrives in Cartagena as soon as possible.

The agreement states that the arrival of the AVE to Cartagena will be on the surface of the current station, which will be reformed in an integral manner to take full advantage of what is the most beautiful railway station in the Region of Murcia.

This action would correspond to the first phase of the arrival of the AVE, pending the decontamination of the land of El Hondón, after which the definitive integration solution would be addressed to guarantee permeability, promote the urban expansion of Cartagena and boost its economic growth.

In the course of the meeting the different alternatives were analyzed, with their costs and deadlines, so that the Board of Directors of the Cartagena High Speed ​​Society, composed of the three administrations, decides at the end of next month the best option for the integration of the AVE in Cartagena.
