The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, has asked the Prime Minister, Mariano Rajoy, that the Minister of the Environment, Isabel García Tejerina, take advantage of the visit to the Region of Murcia, which is scheduled for Thursday, to verify the situation in which is the Mar Menor.
Castejón considers that it is an exceptional opportunity to hold a meeting with the minister and expose the difficulties and problems that the salty lagoon is going through, as well as which considers the local government that would be the adequate measures to combat them.
"This would be a good opportunity to explain the reasons why we consider this Special Plan essential and to visit with us the beaches of our town and understand the magnitude of the problem we are facing," he explained.
The first mayor has made this request through a second letter, which has also reiterated to the President of the Government the request for a Special Plan for the Mar Menor, which contributes effectively to its regeneration.
"We need the Central Government to start the Special Plan we are requesting as soon as possible, accompanied by an ambitious social and incentive project aimed at the regeneration and transformation of the area.
The situation of the Mar Menor requires global actions that can only be promoted by the Government of Spain, "the mayor indicated in her letter to the president.
