The damage that has occurred today in a train between Murcia and Cartagena and left lying to dozens of passengers has led Citizens to attack again against the PP Government to discard the commuter service between the two main cities of the Community.
The local spokesman of the orange training, Manuel Padín, recalled that "the Regional Assembly in May 2017 requested the Ministry of Development unanimously and proposed Citizens, the implementation of the Murcia-Cartagena Cercanías line as soon as possible and that was not subject to the arrival of the AVE to the Region ".
Despite the demand, in his last visit to Cartagena, the Minister of Public Works ruled out the implementation in Cartagena of a Cercanías service with more rail connections with Murcia at a cheaper price, stating, as the press reported, that " in Spain it is not planned to open new suburban centers at this time ".
On the occasion of the hopeless statements of the Ministry of Development, which contravene the desire of the Regional Assembly, the Citizens Group in Congress asked the Government of Spain for explanations about this situation and is still awaiting a response.
In any case, Citizens has reported that continue to demand through new proposals that the Government expand and restructure the hours of this service to better adapt to the needs of its users.
"The abuse of infrastructure that the PP government infringes the Region in general and Cartagena in particular, is outrageous and obvious," said Manuel Padin, who recalled that the Community is one of the communities least benefited by the investment in infrastructures according to a study that reveals that the expenditure destined to transport projects was stagnant between 2010 and 2014 in the community, where only 0.03% was increased per employed worker compared to the increase of 0.51% in the Mediterranean Arc "" It is of little use to have a regional government of the same political color, if they show little claim, "Padin said.
Current situation
Between the cities of Murcia and Cartagena there is a regional rail service with a journey duration of around 50 minutes.
A service of five daily regional trains is provided on the Murcia-Cartagena route, plus a regional express, and 4 trains on the reverse route, plus another regional express (in any case, this last service does not only mean an improvement in the duration of the trip although it increases the ticket by 12%).
The rest of trains are Altaria, medium distance and Talgo, with a much higher price.
The Polytechnic University of Cartagena has been claiming for years the increase in the frequency of trains at a cheaper price.
According to the orange spokesman, "in the opinion of the UPCT and Citizens, these measures are necessary to meet the daily traffic of students, teachers and staff (do not forget, in addition, the reverse traffic, Cartagena, Torre Pacheco and Balsicas Murcia and its universities): as an example, the first express regional leaves Cartagena at 08:50, arriving in Murcia at 09:34 ".
