The Councilor for Education of the City of Cartagena, David Martinez, took part this morning of the award ceremony of the XXIX Mathematical Olympiad 'Memorial Francisco Ortega', organized by the Secondary Education Institute El Bohío de Cartagena.
The students that have been awarded in the 2018 edition have been: Pablo Gómez Toribio (IES Tháder), Nicolás Colchero Truniger (IES Juan Carlos I), Christian Martínez Pujante (IES Floridablanca), Diego Muñoz Bastida (IES El Bohío), Irene Fernández Fernández (IES del Carmen), José Javier Otón Díaz (IES San Vicente Paúl).
On the other hand, the IES El Carmen (Murcia) and the IES Tháder (Orihuela) have received recognition.
Martinez, at the beginning of his speech, has addressed the winners of the XXIX Mathematical Olympiad 'Memorial Francisco Ortega' to congratulate them.
He also congratulated the centers and the participating students, especially the IES El Bohío.
The mayor of Culture has also said that the city of Cartagena will always be next to the public centers to continue being pointers, "there we will continue, supporting them.
Schools know that in everything we can help them we will be there, because our young people deserve the best education possible. "
The objectives of this Mathematical Olympiad are to awaken interest in mathematics and stimulate their study, promote mathematics and provide them with a playful content, as well as pay homage to Professor Francisco Ortega.
In this edition 29 educational centers and 82 students have passed to the final.
These Olympics has the peculiarity of being the only act that brings together the 5 universities of the region of Murcia: Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT), the University of Murcia (UMU), the Catholic University San Antonio (UCAM) and the National University of Distance Education (UNED) and the Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP).
