An image made by Cristina García Rodero stars in the poster announcing La Mar de Músicas 2018. The iconic image of a mermaid illustrates this edition of the festival dedicated to Denmark, which will also have a new stage for its concerts, the courtyard of the former CIM, current headquarters of the Faculty of Business Sciences of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT).
The place chosen, this Thursday, May 3, to publicize the new poster and the new scenery has been, precisely, the courtyard of the old CIM.
Those in charge of offering all these novelties of the festival have been the Councilman of Culture of the City of Cartagena, David Martínez and the vice-rector of Campus and Sustainability of the UPCT, Marcos Ros.
The mayor of Culture, David Martinez, has commented the great honor that has been that an artist like Cristina García Rodero has accepted to create the poster of La Mar de Músicas this year.
The mayor has highlighted the artist who is the first Spanish photographer to be a member of the Magnum agency, besides being the fourth woman to be a member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, and to be a recognized artist with the Award National Photography.
The iconic image of a mermaid, which appears on the poster, was made by the Spanish photographer at a meeting of swimmers in the United States, and serves to illustrate the festival in its Special Denmark.
A country where the sculpture of the Little Mermaid of Copenhagen is one of its hallmarks.
Martínez also wanted to talk about the new stage that will host some of the concerts of this edition of La Mar de Músicas, describing the courtyard of the old CIM as "a unique, historical and intimate atmosphere that will be filled with emotion", and where "You can enjoy this summer a great diversity of musical styles."
The new stage of the festival will have a special setting for these concerts with lights and decoration for the event.
It will have a tiered area, terrace and Chill Out area.
The space will allow to put more tickets and tickets to the sale than the past years, since the new scenario is bigger than the one that had previously been used (the Artillery Park courtyard).
For its part, the Vice Chancellor of Campus and Sustainability of the UPCT, Marcos Ros, explained that the UPCT has been collaborating with La Mar de Músicas for years but that in this edition they wanted to extend this collaboration by hosting nine festival concerts .
These concerts are part of the academic and cultural celebrations that will be held on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the UPCT.
To celebrate this anniversary, Ros has announced that UPCT staff and students of this university will be able to purchase one of the 200 tickets, which will be on sale to see the concerts in the courtyard of the CIM, benefiting from a discount of 50 %.
