The project to restore the Roman Theatre in Cartagena in Istanbul on Thursday won the Grand Prize at the 2010 Europa Nostra award granted by the European Union and recognize excellence in conservation, restoration and enhancement of European cultural heritage.

The Roman Theatre in Cartagena opened the July 11, 2008, after four years of work and almost twenty archaeological work to restore a monument dating from the first century BC.
This museum halls divided between two buildings connected by an underground passage, allows visitors to get from the Town Hall Square to the same theater, saving 25 meters and width of two streets, and houses pieces from the excavations, including highlighting the altars dedicated to the Capitoline triad that dominate the main hall and at the time chaired the theater.
Its opening led the final 20 years of excavation and will invest 43 million euros, financed by the autonomous region, municipality of Cartagena and Cajamurcia, participants in the call Fundación Teatro Romano.
