The Director General of Tourism, Marina Garcia, today attended a meeting with the Consortium Cartagena Port of Cultures, on the occasion of the completion of the works in the Castle Adarve the Conception of the port city, for which the Ministry of Culture and Tourism allocated a total of 683,000 euros.

Cartagena Port of Cultures will hold an open day during the weekend, 5 and 6 June, in which guided tours to publicize the new spaces and their historical context.

Later these areas to be visited again once they are installed the new museum content.

Garcia stressed that "the meeting gave an overview of the key activities during the first months of the year, and the number of visitors who have attended all places of Cartagena Port of Cultures."

In this sense, the director general said that from 1 January to 31 May 2010 have attended the Puerto de Culturas a total of 121,170 visitors.

In the late seventeenth century, a series of works in the Castillo de la Concepción to defend the city, built between the ancient and medieval towers around the keep by their sides east and south, stays today are recovered, which would serve to house the garrison stationed there.

The latest events that have taken place in the complex, with a budget of 683,000 euros, including the archaeological and architectural adaptation and generate new access to the Keep, enter an elevator in the old courtyard and connected to the reception and promoting exit of visitors through the southern part of the new rooms.

He is currently in production and installation incorporating museum content to the Interpretation Center of the History of Cartagena, devoted to medieval history of the city, which until now had not been made known to the visitor.

In this new space museum is able to know various aspects of Medieval Cartagena, both Islamic and Christian, as history, urban planning, economics, port or town, and offer visitors a comprehensive explanation of the evolution of the fort from its origins to the present .
