Fabián Martínez Juárez was elected this morning Cartagenero the Year 2009, by a jury which was chaired by the Mayor, Pilar Barreiro, directors of the Centre for Tourism Initiatives in Cartagena, which convenes annually this award in cooperation with the City of Cartagena, Thomas Amato and Juan de Haro, the councilors of Tourism and Culture, Javier Herrera and Rosario Montero, the official chronicler of Cartagena, José Monerri, the prize last year, María José Puerto, and representatives of the media in the city.

The name of Fabián Martínez Juárez was born in Cartagena in 1938, has been the most votes among those proposed by various associations, organizations and citizens, during the period to be opened for this purpose.

With the award the jury has to recognize the work of Fabian Martinez Juarez throughout his life.

Already in the processions of Holy Week, was honored in 2002 as a procession of the Year in recognition of his extensive work for the shows passion and as chairman of the group mako San Juan, for over 10 years.

Also has valued his efforts as head of the Association of Friends of San Juan (ADAS), which has been organized so interrupted the tribute to the Cartagena absent, each Holy Thursday, an act of glorification of Cartagena and those peasants who come on time returning to the city called by the call of the processions.

But without a doubt the most outstanding merit of those provided by public institutions and proponents of the candidacy of Fabian Martinez Juarez has been in the field of Parkinson's disease, which he has suffered for years.

A disease that has slowly been eroding its authority but that has not prevented him strive for the creation of the Parkinson Association of Cartagena and construction in our city from the National Center for Socio-Health of People with the disease Parkinson, adopted five years ago, but has not yet begun to build, and that will mean a breakthrough for those patients who suffer.

As usual, the award will be presented soon in a ceremony which will stage the Palace Hall of Cartagena.
