The IES has joined Ben Arabi in 2010 to the centenary of the birth of the poet Miguel Hernández.
It has therefore worked closely with the Cultural Foundation Miguel Hernández de Orihuela, and has received funding from the City of Cartagena, through its Department of Education and Youth.
The life and work of poet Orihuela has been included in the schedules of the teaching departments of Plastic, Geography and History and Spanish Language and Literature, in all courses of the ESO, in addition to the anthology of the poet is reading to the PAU 2 º de Bachillerato.
Since the beginning of course have been organized extracurricular activities (visit to the poet's house in Orihuela, literary contest and visual arts for students in the center, with funding by the Foundation, readings of his poems in the classroom .)
The main events of the centennial celebration has been timed to coincide with the day the book.
So, on April 23 held a recital of students, the awards ceremony of the competitions and a lecture by Professor Francis J.
Franco, scholar and author of books on the group of 27 in Cartagena.
Its interesting conference, aimed at students in high school, was on MH and republican culture.
The event was attended by technical Cultural Foundation Miguel Hernández, Aitor Larrabide.
The conference this day was funded by the Department of Education.
Subsequently, on April 26 developed another stage show based on the writer's poems, readings and interesting discussion of María Victoria Martín González, renowned specialist in the life and work of Carmen Conde.
Professor Martin spoke to the students of second cycle education about the relationship between Carmen Conde, Antonio Oliver and MH.
