The Ministry of Health reports that the Criminal Court No. 3 of Cartagena has ordered a patient to a year and nine months imprisonment to recognize "the author of a crime for assault and other injuries" for assaulting and threatening a doctor at a health center in the region in 2006.
The defendant, who admitted being the author of such crimes, agreed with the penalty sought by the prosecution and must also compensate the Murcia Health Service (SMS) to 35,794 euros for costs of replacing the optional plus costs of trial.
The general director of Human Resources, SMS, Pablo Alarcon stressed the importance of this ruling, "because the court recognizes as an attack against a public official to assault a doctor during working hours."
"Since the Ministry is making great efforts to prevent attacks on medical personnel and ensure that offenders are prosecuted," said Alarcon.
He explained that the Plan of Assault Prevention for Health Professionals in the Region is an "essential tool" to take steps to enhance the safety of these workers.
Other crimes of indecent
The Director General recalled that in the region there have been three rulings that recognize and attack against a public official aggression health professionals.
Two were decided in favor of a doctor and two nurses and a third, most recently, in favor of an auxiliary to the taxpayer is considered a crime of assault.
