Open a new campaign to collect used textbooks (17/09/2008)

Councillor for Education, Josefa Maroto, has submitted a year and a complementary action to prevent inequalities in education, the new Collection Campaign Used Textbooks, which starts today and runs throughout the month of September.

All Used Textbooks citizens who donate will be categorized and sorted by subject and publishers, and prepared to cedérselos to those in need, provided through the school.

Thus, as of October 1, schools that need books to some of his students may apply for the Bank of Books in the Department of Education.

Textbooks used by our children can serve other children who have economic difficulties to acquire them.

Therefore, from the Department of Education call upon the solidarity of so many families who would be willing to donate used textbooks for their children, for not being as useful, they said Josefa Maroto.

The only question to consider is that textbooks used must be in good condition and be current editions (with no more than four years old).

They can be any field of education and any school level.

The Book Bank headquarters will move, from September 23 to the ground floor of the old school Carmen Conde, a much larger units and better conditions for cataloging and storage of books.

Emphasize that according to the information before the Department of Education Collection Campaign Used Textbooks, held last year 2007/2008 from the Municipal Truancy Program, was closed successfully, since the same A total of 33 schools, 4 municipal associations and 49 individual families who have donated a total of 3,950 text books of different subjects, which became the Bank of Books for cataloging.

Of total documents received at the Bank of Books were delivered to schools 1,336 applicants who were current and in good condition, with those who have benefited a large number of economically disadvantaged students.

Also, after cataloging, have rejected a total of 1560 books (39%), not to be in good condition or correspond to older editions that are no longer in force.

The rest of the books received at the Bank of the Department of Education (a total of 1,054 volumes) remain stored there to address other possible applications of schools for this new school year.

Councillor of Education has recognized the work of those who collaborated with this campaign, making a united effort for the benefit of the students with fewer economic resources of our county, serving a year the goal of this campaign, which is motivating citizenship to cooperation with others and promote the reuse of books, teaching children to respect and care for their textbooks, since they sell to others when no longer needed.
