On-going monitoring device and Rescue on beaches (03/06/2008)

The Councillor for Citizen Security, Enrique Pérez Abellán, presented this morning on the esplanade of the Heroes of Cavite new human and technical resources with the Civil Protection that will have this summer to implement the Plan of Supervision and Rescue on the beach the coast of Cartagena.

The presentation ceremony was attended by the Director General of Security, Carlos Nieto, the fire chief, Francisco Gómez Avalos, and the head of Civil Protection, José Navarro.

One of the main novelties of this year, as Carlos Nieto stressed is that Civil Protection has two ambulances own, which speeds the transfer of minor injuries to health centers, which until last season had to be done using Murciano Health Service.

There are also two new vessels of 6 feet in length, which join the existing two to meet all the coastal beaches, and a new jet ski and a quad, making a total of three motorcycles and three quads available to swimmers.

Monitoring device and Rescue beaches launched in Sunday, June 1, with the mounting post Galúa in La Manga, with a jet ski and a quad, a first aid station with an ambulance Zeus on the beach, also in La Manga, and a spot on the beach of San Ginés, La Azohía.

"During the season first and second half of June through September, 21 people were divided in three positions.

The next day, June 15 opens a device placed over fifteen rescue with more resources, with a total of 56 persons, acting in the mid season called "second half of June and early September," and, from 1 July to 31 August is high season, there will be 22 seats up to 72 people every day on the beaches (they have increased by three positions from last year and 25 people).

The overall investment has been undertaken to address this increase in average round as 4 million euros, of which about 600,000 euro from the Directorate General of Security.

Professionalize VOLUNTEERS

The City Council has launched a pilot project to convert the Civil Defence volunteers in public.

To do this, this year has combined staff of both types to meet the demands of the beach areas more difficult.

According to the Director General of Security, Carlos Nieto, the idea is that in the near future, all volunteers to become professionals.

To select the latter have been addressed in the curriculum and experience, so this summer, in high season, there will be 27 professionals and 45 volunteers.

The formation of these persons has also been particularly careful with the goal of a good knowledge of local ordinances in order to monitor compliance, as is the case with respect to the flags to the state of the beaches, and ignoring warnings that the may endanger life that both fulfills and rescuers.
